Be Not Yoked With Unholy Agreements!

Remember the story of my infamous experience with that blue beast of a roller coaster, Millennium Force? If not, you can read about it on the main page of this site.
That story is not about fear of roller coasters. A roller coaster was only the situation. It was an example. But, it is an example of how fear can keep you from your dreams, your calling, your passion or anything else you desire to do, have or achieve.
Well, from that story, you'll see I had every intention of riding that coaster. We had travelled all the way to Cedar Point theme park, in Ohio, to ride it, along with other coasters at the park. I had ridden many coasters before.
But, as I was standing there in line to ride the coaster, all kinds of thoughts were entering my mind. I was thinking..."what if the chain failed to work on the first large hill. Would the coaster then go backwards back down that hill and perhaps be hit by another train of cars? That could cause some injuries". "90 miles per hour fairly fast for a roller coaster. What if by some chance the car came off the track at a turn. That car would then plunge off the coaster, with lives being lost". "What if the car went around a turn at a high rate of speed and the safety bar or seat belt didn't work? Then we'd be thrown out of the car and plunge to severe injury or death".
I stood in line with my daughter and pondered those thoughts. I then thought to myself: "Yes, that chain on the first hill could stop working. Then what? Our car could go backward down that hill. We could have severe whiplash or some other type of injury". I then thought, "That car could come off the track at a very high rate of speed. It's happened before. There's no reason why it couldn't happen this time. The coaster has supported many trips on it before, but this one time, the car could speed off the track". I also pondered the third possibility and told myself; "the safety bar and seat belt could fail to work on the coaster. That has happened before as well. We would never survive such a fall".
I wish I could say that after pondering such thoughts, I considered them ridiculous and went ahead and rode that coaster with my daughter. But, I didn't. I became intimidated by those thoughts and told my daughter I couldn't ride that coaster. She asked me to stay but also said she understood. As a result, I missed a great experience, with my daughter, on a fun, fast coaster.
What happened? I had made unholy or dangerous agreements. These are agreements that we make that'll cause us harm. In this situation with the coaster, I made agreements with the thoughts of the chain on the large first hill breaking, the car being thrown off the track and the safety bar or seat belt not working. I also made the agreement that if I rode that coaster, pain very likely could occur. These three agreements I made led to intimidation. I allowed the sheer size and speed of that coaster have authority over me. As a result, I quit and left my daughter standing in line.
Ten of the twelve spies, who were sent to spy out the promised land came back with a negative report. They saw how the cities were walled and how powerful the inhabitants of the land appeared. They made an agreement, within themselves, that the inhabitants were too powerful to be conquered.
Adam and Eve made a dangerous or unholy agreement with Satan, when they were told they wouldn't die and that God was holding back on them. They agreed with Satan's lies. They made the ultimate unholy agreement. The results were catastrophic.

Unholy agreements or dangerous agreements are one of the most deadly of the roots of fear. These agreements will kill your faith, kill your dreams, kill your relationships and even kill your hope. Try to avoid unholy agreements at all cost. These
agreements can derail you for a very long time, if not dealt with.
How are unholy agreements made? First, a seed thought is planted in your mind. That seed thought can have a demonic source or from ourselves. These thoughts from ourselves, are the result of our self image and perceptions about the situation, God and ourselves. This is what happened with me and the coaster. I sowed the seed thoughts of danger in my mind. I then, agreed that the thoughts were true. The result was that root of fear took hold, producing a tree of fear.
There are all types of seed thoughts that can be planted in your mind. You can make statements such as "I've failed before, so I see no reason why I'd succeed this time". Or you could say, "Being I've gone through this divorce, I'm a failure as husband or wife". Others can plant the seeds of unholy agreements in your mind by saying things like "be realistic".
In Colossians 2:13-14, "He (Christ) made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross".
Those decrees against us can be accusations by demonic forces, our own negative decree against us, or negative decrees by others. This is why it's so very important to understand who you are and what your standing is with Christ. Once those decrees are made and we agree with them, it will take revelation from God and our willingness to receive that revelation, to undo the damage of those agreements and kill that root of fear.
The key is to remember your standing with Christ and who you are in Christ. Those seed thoughts trying to derail you are lies. Reject them. Don't let unholy agreements stop you in your walk from fear to faith.
