Words Have Power

Picture

There was a man named Nick Stitzman.  He was a railroad yardman.  Nick was strong and healthy.  He had the reputation of being a hard worker, with a very loving wife.  He also had two children.

On one summer say, the train crews were told they'd be able to quit an  hour early in honor of the foreman's birthday.  Nick was accidentally locked in refrigerated box car, while doing some checks on some railroad cars.  Nick realized the rest of the men had left and began to panic.

He banged on the car door until his fists were bloody.  He also shouted for help, until his voice was hoarse.  But no one heard Nick.  With his knowledge of the numbers and the facts, he predicted the temperature in the box car to be about zero degrees.

Nick thought if he didn't get out of the car, he would freeze to death.  Nick wanted his wife and family to know exactly what happened to him.  He found a knife and began to write his words on the wooden floor.  He wrote the following words:  "It's so cold my body is getting numb.  If I could just go to sleep.  These may be my last words".

The next morning, the crew came to the box car and slid open the heavy doors.  They found Nick dead.  An autopsy was performed.  It revealed that Nick, had indeed, frozen to death.  The strange thing is, the refrigeration unit of the boxcar was inoperative.  The temperature inside the box car registered 55 degrees!

Nick had killed himself by the power of his own thoughts and words.

Words are very powerful.  They can give life or they can give death.  Proverbs 18:21 says that "death and life are in the power of the tongue".  In the book of James, chapter 3, says that "from the same mouth come blessing and cursing'.  Your words can also produce fear or faith.  Your words are one of the most important seeds of faith.

God used words to to create the world.  We are created in the image of God.  So, our words can be creative or destructive.  Each time we speak words, we're speaking life or death to those who hear us.  We are speaking either fear or faith.

Our words give expression to what we think, feel, want and believe.  It's recorded in Matthew 2;34-35 where Jesus said, "out of the heart the mouth speaks".  Our words are the result of our inner thoughts and attitudes.

Our words can increase or decrease your level of faith or fear.  They can have an affect on your prayers and have a positive or negative effect on your future.

Never in the history of our world have words been so cheap, irrevocable, and viral.  Through our phones and the internet, we have texting, e-mail, instant messaging, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.  Words are flying all around us every day, like they've never done.

You and I need to remember the words that come out of our mouths, enter our own ears, as well as the ears of others.  Those words then drop down into our hearts and give us joy or sadness, peace or turmoil, fear or faith.  Proverbs 13:2 says that we enjoy the fruit of our mouths.  So, our words will affect us as well as others around us.

You don't need to actually verbalize the words out loud for them to affect you.  They can affect you when you say them, silently, in your heart.  Say something, even silently, in our hearts, often enough we will believe it whether or not it's true.  The Bible tells us we receive what we believe.  You and I reap what we sow, whether good or bad, peace or  turmoil, fear or faith.

A Word Strategy

Picture
The words you speak come back to you.  They are like a boomerang.  They always return.  Spoken words don't only affect those around you.  They ultimately come back to you, the person who spoke them.  Those words you speak exert the same amount of influence on you as those to whom they are spoken, as well as those who  hear them.

Since words are that powerful, they must be ruled and  managed.  Jesus was our example regarding the use of words.  "For I did not speak on my own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent me has given me commandment, what to say and what to speak" (John 12:49).

The best instructor for us in the use of words is the Holy Spirit.  If you react sensitively to the leading of the Holy Spirit, then you will make fewer mistakes, because you will know what words to say under His guidance.  God takes our words so seriously that Jesus said that on the day of judgement, we will give account for every word we  have spoken.  By our words we will be acquitted and by our words one will be condemned (Matthew 12:36-37).

It is clear then, the wise thing to do is to refrain from speaking.  Speaking less will lead to a more peaceful and productive life.

Words of Hope

When you speak words, speak words of hope.  And speak those words aloud.  Unleash you can do all things through Christ words.  As you do this, also meditate and memorize scripture verses.  Then proclaim those positive and powerful verses as if they written for your personal life.

People  often speak words of fear or despair.  They'll say things like "I can't go on", or "this life is too difficult for me".  I won't deny the challenges that life presents to us.  Yet by speaking words of despair like this, you bind yourself up and can't accomplish much with your life.

Some may think words like these are just trivial and harmless phrases.  What they don't understand is that words are not trivial. They are powerful beyond imagination.  A single word uttered by someone has the power to destroy life or give life to someone.

Remember we have the Son of God on our side.  He died for our sins and overcame the world.  He has given us power and authority through a relationship with Him.  He has given us the Holy Spirit.  If this is the case, why is it often difficult to stop speaking words of doubt and fear.  Take a look at the roots of fear and you'll see some of the reasons.

Why do believers often speak negative words that indicate their belief in an inability to overcome sufferings and harships?  In Mark 9:23 Jesus tells us in this verse that "all things are possible to  him who believes".  If this is the case, then why do we often speak words of unbelief?

Declarations

Picture
In Job 2:28, we are told "You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you.  You and I have the power to decree faith or fear in our lives.  We can decree good things or bad things. We can declare sickness or health.  If you don't believe this, just think of the number of  people that manifest psychosomatic illnesses.

You have the power to decree.  You are a priest and king under the King of Kings.  With your mouth you can declare health.  You can declare sickness.  You can declare faith and you can declare fear.

A great way to begin with declarations is to declare the scriptures.  Declare who you are in Christ.  Declare that you are not under condemnation, for there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  Declare the promises God has made in His word.

You want to  know how powerful decrees are?  Paul tells us in Colossians that Jesus "...canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us;  and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross" (Colossians 2:14).  Decrees are so powerful Jesus had to take care of negative decrees on the cross.

Declare before going to bed that you are blessed in Christ.   Declare that nothing is impossible through Christ and that you are seated at the right hand of God.  Make positive declarations in faith.

Build Your Faith and Release It Through Words

Words are tools that are essential.  They are needed in spiritual warfare.  They are also needed to overcome bad circumstances.  This is where higher level focus is essential.  A lower level focus will lead you only into fear and negative declarations.

Declare and receive God's promises from His word over and over again.  As you do, you'll notice changes.  Declaring and claiming God's promises will produce greater faith.  You will have higher level focus and see things from God's viewpoint rather than your lower viewpoint.

With your words you can release faith and grow in that faith as you maintain focus on God's promises.  Your circumstances will change from the dimension of  the flesh to the dimension of the Spirit.

As you release your words and build your faith, miracles are possible when you use your words to proclaim and declare.  Too often we use our words to declare defeat, fear, lack and sickness.  As a result, many Christians lead defeated lives.

So dream, pray in faith, build your faith to a higher level with your words and declare your dreams and faith by the words of your mouth.  You and I must come to the place where we know without any shadow of doubt that the power of life and death is in our tongues.

Speak Creative Words and Words of Success

Picture
Words can either bring life or death.  Words can also bring defeat or success.  Words have the power to inspire and to change a life completely.  Creative words can bring success and joy.

This is why Jesus spoke what only the Father told Him to speak and how to say them.  He knew His Father would have Him speak words of hope and joy to those who needed it.

There's a story about Zig Ziglar that illustrates the power of words.  He was in New York City and was about get on a subway.  He was about to get on the subway and noticed a beggar who was selling pencils for a dollar apiece.  Dr. Ziglar pulled out a dollar bill and gave it to the beggar, not being concerned about getting the pencil.

As he walked away, he decided to turn around and go back to the beggar.  He told the beggar, "I want my pencil for the dollar I dropped in the box.  The beggar  gave him a pencil.  As he received his pencil, Dr. Ziglar told the beggar, "You are a businessman like me.  You are no longer a beggar".

As a result of hearing those words, the beggar's life turned completely around.  He was a businessman who was trying to make a living by selling pencils.  That man went on to become a successful businessman.

He did this because his self-image had completely changed.  He was encouraged by hearing the word "businessman", that he began to associate with himself.

Words that you speak can change another person's life completely.

Like Jesus, a righteous person should always think deeply about the words that should be used and when and where to use them.

We must plant ourselves in the Word of God and use the words of the Bible as the foundation of our own words.  When we use creative words that are based on and grow our faith, we will experience amazing changes in our lives.
